The Best Green Beans

Need a great side dish? Look no further. These are my favorite way to cook up green beans in the winter that I froze from the garden last summer. They’re salty, buttery, and garlicky. So GOOD!

Honestly, they’re the easiest thing too. I just put everything in my cast iron skillet with the lid on until the green beans unfreeze (yes, I plop them in completely frozen most times since I never remember to get them out early) then remove the lid to let the moisture evaporate and finish cooking. I honestly like them better than *gasp* bacon green beans.

I’ve made them this way in the oven too! Just cook at 350 until everything is done! It’s not as good in my opinion since the water doesn’t evaporate as well, but it is even easier and more hands off!

THe Best Green Beans

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen quart bag of green beans (3-4 cups)

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic

  • 1-2 teaspoons salt (start small and add as needed)

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or 1 fresh thyme sprig

  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions:

Toss everything into a large skillet. Cook over medium heat. If frozen, cover until the green beans defrost. Once the green beans are defrosted, uncover and let cook for another 5-10 minutes stirring occasionally. The green beans are done when the moisture have evaporated and the beans are starting to brown in the butter. Serve with your favorite meat (we like steak) for dinner. Enjoy!
